About The Lawless Dietitian

Hello! I am Catherine Shamlian, a.k.a. The Lawless Dietitian. I was drawn to a career in nutrition and dietetics after a breast cancer diagnosis and successful treatment in 2006, after which I sought health improvement with the help of a nutritionist. In 2015, I left a career in the legal field to enroll in a master’s program in nutrition science. Today I am the owner and founder of Shamlian Nutrition, PLLC and The Lawless Dietitian url (trademark pending). I am trained and certified by The Original Intuitive Eating Experts to be an Intuitive Eating Counselor. I am also a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State, permitted to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to New York residents. In my practice, I embrace a weight-inclusive, non-diet/non-food rules approach to nutrition counseling, utilizing the ten principles of Intuitive Eating.

So . . . Why should you care about any of that? Because I offer a non-judgmental space for clients to share their struggles with weight cycling, dieting, body image and all things related. And diet culture does not get a seat at our table!

Beginning a counseling relationship in a safe space that is weight-inclusive, non-diet, and non-food rules is an empowering experience. In this environment, clients may freely explore their relationship with food and their body without judgment or shame. Embracing the principles of Intuitive Easting, counseling sessions focus on holistic well-being rather than pursuing an arbitrary number on a scale. Encouraging clients to honor their body's needs and nourish themselves intuitively, practitioners create an atmosphere where self-acceptance and body positivity flourish. This collaborative, non-judgmental approach fosters deep healing and personal growth, helping individuals develop a peaceful relationship with food and body image.

With an Intuitive Eating approach to food and nutrition, clients learn to listen to their body’s cues, trust their instincts and find joy in nourishing themselves. Ultimately, the goal for clients is to break free from the diet mentality and make peace with food by working with a nutrition counselor to challenge harmful beliefs and make choices that truly align with their well-being.

Let’s embark on a journey towards a positive relationship with food!
